Club Awards

The nominations for all awards are the responsibility of the General Committee.

Brian Levy Memorial Trophy

When young Brian died, his family donated the trophy. It was decided to award it to the most improved young player during the season. It is usually a youngster, but it was once awarded to Peter King who certainly was not young at the time. It is now awarded to the most improved player regardless of age.

Arthur Austin Trophy

Donated by our ex Life President who was also heavily involved with Durham County Cricket Club. This is probably the most prestigious award, given to the member who has provided long and conspicuous service to the club. As those who do long service tend to hang around it is not unusual to see the same names being nominated. It is awarded when appropriate so may not be awarded every year.

Rob Wigin Shield

Our long-time Fixture Secretary wanted to reward the club team with the best record. As this was introduced after leagues were introduced, Rob tended to only consider league results. Determining the winner has become easier with the statistics provided by Fixtures Live.

Golden Jubilee Trophy

To celebrate our 50th Anniversary, our secretary Ray Brearley, framed an English head stick he used in a vets match on Stockton’s grass pitch. On the brass side panels are placed the names of players aged 50 who are still playing regularly. Initially players received a small trophy at the AGM but this practice has fallen by the wayside in recent years.

Ken Ward Trophy

He was the groundsman at Tilery Sports Centre who took a keen interest in the club. A few years before he retired, he donated the trophy which he awarded to personalities he met at Tilery who were connected to the club. When the selection passed to the Committee they used it to reward members who were doing service on behalf of the club, maybe even during a short time span. This is no longer awarded.

Graeme Turner Award

Graeme was a young enthusiastic 4th XI captain who died of a brain tumour. As he encouraged the younger players, his family donated a trophy to be given to the member regarded as influential in the development and encouragement of young players. This could be achieved through coaching, selection, manager, captain, or player. This is now called: Youth Contributor Award but not necessary awarded every year.

Peter Groark Award

This is awarded in recognition of the umpiring contribution made by a member to the lower teams of the club. No longer awarded.

Ladies Players’ Player

This is determined by totalling the player of the match votes across the season.

Ladies Player of the Year

This is chosen by the manager/captain
