Ladies 1s vs Morpeth 2

The match began with a strong, disciplined first half from our side. Defensively, we were solid and well organised, working tirelessly to limit Morpeth’s chances. Despite sustained pressure, we only conceded a single goal, and the first half finished 1–0. Our defensive structure held firm throughout, supported by outstanding goalkeeping from Stevo, whose sharp reactions and calm composure kept us in the game and repeatedly frustrated the opposition.

We also showed promise going forward in the first half, with Zoe and Sue both coming close to scoring and testing Morpeth’s defence. Team morale was excellent, with everyone committed and working for each other. Charlie put her body on the line with some brave challenges, Mich made a crucial stand on the goal line, and Emma was exceptional, playing every position on the pitch when needed and doing so brilliantly. The middle of the pitch worked relentlessly to break up play, while Lynsey and Jess never stopped running, covering huge amounts of ground.

We carried that momentum into the second half, coming out with real intent and energy. There were some excellent runs down the wings, creating space and opportunities as we pushed to get back into the game. However, despite our positive start, luck didn’t fall our way and the physical demands of the match began to take their toll.

As the half progressed, Morpeth found another gear and maintained their intensity. In the final 10 minutes, their sustained pressure told, and they scored five quick goals, capitalising on our growing fatigue. Despite our continued effort, resilience, and positive attitude right to the final whistle, Morpeth finished strongly, and the match ended in a 7–0 victory to Morpeth.

Girl of the Match: Stevo – for outstanding goalkeeping, brilliant reactions, and staying calm under constant pressure.

Wally of the Week: Lynsey – for forgetting the goalkeeping
