Stockton Hockey Club brought home two pieces of silverware this weekend, with the Men’s 1st XI winning the Durham County Cup and the Men’s 2nd XI lifting the Durham County Vase.
The Ladies came within touching distance of making it a clean sweep, finishing runners-up in their County Cup tournament after a fantastic final game.
It was a brilliant weekend for the club, with all three teams competing strongly and showing the quality, depth and togetherness that continues to grow throughout Stockton Hockey.
The Men’s 1st XI were first up, facing a strong Stokesley side in their opening County Cup fixture.
Stockton produced an excellent performance to come away with a 3–0 victory, despite a controversial disallowed penalty stroke along the way.
After a short break, it was straight into their second and much tougher fixture against Durham University.
What followed was a brilliant contest, with both sides battling hard in a game that could have gone either way. Stockton held their nerve when it mattered, eventually securing a 3–2 victory and, with it, the Durham County Cup title.
A fantastic achievement for the 1st XI and another piece of silverware to add to the club’s growing collection.
🏆 Durham County Cup Champions
On the other pitch, the Men’s 2nd XI were also chasing silverware, and they certainly weren't messing around.
Their first game was against Hartlepool, and the 2s produced a truly dominant display, storming to a 13–0 victory.
There have even been rumours that Dan Hill managed to get himself on the scoresheet.
We’re still not entirely sure we believe it.
The 2s then faced another Stokesley side and followed up their huge opening win with another impressive performance, securing a 4–0 victory.
Two games. Two wins. 17 goals scored and none conceded.
Most importantly, the results secured the Durham County Vase for Stockton.
🏆 Durham County Vase Champions
The Ladies were hoping to complete a clean sweep on Sunday as they travelled to Durham for their County Cup tournament.
They opened with a 0–0 draw against a very experienced Hartlepool side. Stockton enjoyed plenty of possession but found it difficult to turn that pressure into goals, while some physical challenges left a couple of players carrying knocks.
The second game brought a tough test against a strong Stokesley side. Despite again seeing plenty of the ball, Stockton were caught by some excellent counter-attacking hockey and eventually went down 4–0.
But the Ladies saved their best performance for last.
They faced Norton in their final game and finally found their rhythm, playing with the movement, support and teamwork that has become a feature of the team.
Zoey was in the right place at the back post twice to help Stockton secure an excellent 2–1 victory.
The result saw the Ladies finish runners-up in the tournament.
🥈 Durham County Cup Runners-up
While they couldn't quite complete the treble, finishing second against some excellent opposition is a fantastic achievement and provides plenty of encouragement heading into the new season.
⭐ Girls of the Tournament: Charlie & Maria T
A joint award after two fantastic individual performances, with both players showing excellent movement, work rate and commitment throughout the tournament.
